Limitation of Human Reason

Abduh states: “…but reason quite lacks the competence to penetrate to the essence of things. For the attempt to discern the nature of things, which necessarily belongs with their essential complexity, would have to lead to the pure essence and to this, necessarily, there is no rational access. So the utmost that our rationality can attain is acknowledgement of accidents and effects. ..Take, for example, light – the most clear and evident of things. Students have propounded many laws about it and arranged them in a special science. But none of them can understand what it is or penetrate the nature of illumination. They know only about light what every non-student using his eyes knows equally well… The study of creation is necessarily salutary in a practical way and lightens for the soul the way to the knowledge of Him who can be characterized by the fact that aside from Him none of these things would have the order they plainly possess. Contradictory views of the universe are part of the conflict of truth with error. Truth must prevail over falsehood by dint of sound thought or by the strength of the case outweighing its weakness…the Qur’an and earlier Scriptures confine themselves to directing attention to the creator’s existence and to His perfect attributes, as these may be known from the contemplation of the created world. As for the nature of His attributes and what they signify, it is beyond our province to discuss.”

 Arguments about Existence of God

“Among the proofs of knowledge in the necessary Being is what we may observe of the principles and certainties in the order of the contingent universe, and the fact that everything has its place, and each has at hand what is needful for it to be and continue to be. This situation manifests itself readily in the spectacle of things visible, small and great, high and low. Take the situation among the stars and their dependable interrelation, the fixed law of their movement by which they keep their appointed courses and every star knows its orbit. Were they irregular, the planetary order – indeed the whole universe – would be thrown into confusion. There are other points which the astronomical sciences expound. All this bears witness to the maker’s knowledge and wisdom… Take, again, what is observable in the detailed study of plants and animals and the powers with which they are endowed, and the organs as needful for the maintenance of life, with faculties and limbs rightly located in their bodies. The insensible things among them, like plants, have a natural capacity to obtain the appropriate food and leave the inappropriate. The seed of the colocynth is there side by side with the melon seed, in one ground and water and in the same cultivation. Yet the one takes from the one context what yields the bitterest poison and the other the most delightful sweetness. Consider too the guidance of the creatures of sense in the employment of their members and organs, and exercise of all their powers in their proper capacities. It is He who knows the embryo when it is no more than a sperm drop. He knows how, when it is perfected into a creature and has from Him the `fiat’ of independent life, it needs hands, feet, eyes, nose and ears and other, inner, faculties to use in pursuance of its being and in self-protection, as well as the necessity of stomach, liver and lung and the rest of the organs indispensable to growth and life throughout the allotted span.

Does not this created world, which men of intelligence fall over themselves to investigate until they attain its secrets, in truth bear witness to its originator, the all-knowing, who has given being to every created thing and guided it? Is it possible that nothing but coincidence, the thing we call `chance’, gave rise to all this order? Has chance laid down the laws upon which are built the universes mighty and lowly? Never. The artificer of all is He whom `not an atom’s weight in heaven and earth escapes’. He hears and knows all.”

Trailing Our Lost Inherent Identity

Researches often begin with hypothesis and perhaps, subconsciously scientists try to prove their suggested hypothesis. We tend to draw a conclusion or find an answer that suits to our prior beliefs and the finding that should ideally be aimed at the pursuit of truth, in reality ended up in validation of our existing beliefs and practices. It’s almost impossible to get fully neutral before undertaking a journey to find the truth. We cannot ignore the direct or indirect, noticeable or unnoticed influence of our norms and faith.

Philosophical approach in a way helps us to put in neutral gear by doubting everything in the beginning, including our own set of belief. However, it is really hard and not everyone can empty his mind from all prejudices and biases while assessing social ideologies. If you expect a possibility to be at a wrong side and feel no shame in accepting that than only your quest for truth would be on the neutral path. In this case, ideally you should not expect anything as a conclusion. And also you should be flexible enough to accept anything going against your beliefs.

There can be many sides of a story and people feel comfortable to choose a side that appears more rational and reasonable to them or the one which is in their greater interest. That doesn’t mean other sides don’t exist or they are absolutely wrong. The problem with today’s world is that we are being divided into groups of nationalities, cultures and religions rigidly therefore we, by default look for traits and attributes that differentiate us in order to be unique and preserve our individuality. Ironically, we find our identity in differentiation, which is the cause of all the disharmony and global unrest.

Ideally, we should be seeking similarities in order to get united with only our innate identity i.e. human beings; belonging to the same kingdom of humanity. And that oneness would help accept us all the differences that exist among people of different groups, as the creative art of the Creator. Unfortunately, it was not done since the primitive age of mankind otherwise entire nation-state system would make no sense and weapons of war would not be in high demand. Who would tell us that such weapons of mass destruction of humanity are used to ensure our own survival? Hatred among people is a proven instrument for ruling the world. Because peace seems to be a fantasy that is only used to make people dream and manipulate to acquire the vested interests of monarchs, democrats and dictators.

I was talking about the truth. Philosophy taught me that truth can be subjective in the mortal world but there is only one universal truth that is keeping the universe in its perfect order and harmony. All the sacred ways lead to the same divine authority but we on the basis of our different backgrounds and identities purse Him in different ways. And I’m certain if we start our sacred quest by getting neutral (ignoring all the differences and hatred developed on the grounds of culture and religion) by just owning our innate identity as human being – a humble creature and obedient seeker, we can reach the ultimate truth – whose love is same for all.

Restless Battle of Reason Conquered by Faith

They say ignorance is bliss. The Ignorant is least bothered about whatever is happening to him and the world around. He seldom asks or questions anything. He just moves with a flow like a dead fish. I used to be witty, sarcastic and talkative, always willing to indulge in an argument and trying best to win. I was so sure about everything I believed. The confidence and energy was always at its optimal level. As I grew up, I became a completely changed person. It’s certain I am more knowledgeable than before but I have lost my confidence. When I knew little, I was so sure about everything. Now when I have more knowledge, I am full of doubts. Earlier, I had answers of all questions. Now there are more questions than the definite answers. Previously, I was determined to fight for my argument but today I don’t want to get into one.
I feel I know nothing with certainty. As I’m filling myself with more knowledge and up-to-date facts, the more I find myself hollow from inside. Each answer leads to several other questions. My existence gets smaller as I go deeper in an ocean of wisdom in pursuit of universal secrets. The appetite of intellect makes a person restless. His reason alone cannot lead him to the ultimate truth. As our sensory perceptions, human reason and intellectual capability is also limited. Now, I have realized the limitation of human mind whose power and complex working keep the scientists wondering, as it can give birth to thousands of questions through limitless imagination and wandering free of time and space but the human reason, fails to answer the questions with clarity and certainty. That’s why there are philosophers and other social scientists who spend their entire life in wondering and arguing, because they don’t want to believe in the limitation of human reason. Therefore, I have started the quest of wisdom through the divine light, which is our true guide and it will never leave us astray.

Today I have realized the power of faith and its edge over troubling reason. What’s more rational to believe that the Creator of all the known and unknown creatures is the One who is all knowing and the ultimate source of absolute wisdom.

I often ask myself, several questions.. but seldom get straight answers.

I often ask myself, several questions.. but seldom get straight answers.

Who AM I?

I’m an ego of shattered confidence,

I’m the fire of hatred that burn myself,

I’m the emptiness filled with the deprived crowd,

I’m the unspoken emotions that seek ears,

I’m an unpleasant gesture that need acceptance,

I’m the aggression of ocean waves,

I’m the thunder of sacred storm,

I’m the bitter.. illusive reality,

and the calm peaceful truth..

Someone who seek something unknown.. undiscovered.. vague yet desirable..

outside the self.. and in the world around..

.. in books, speeches, temples, churches and mosques..

or within..

What am I searching for?

The truth.. God? or myself..

Are these three separated from one another?

Blessed Or Deprived? – Something that we often think about..

We are Blessed. Alhumdolillah.

Sometime I consider myself as the happiest and luckiest person of this world who has everything that he wished for. While at times, my high level of excitement enters into the darkness of negativity and thoughts of pity, guilt and regret get more powerful than that of positive ones. Being a human, most of the times we ignore blessings of God and instead of being thankful and feel blessed about our belongings and powers, we indulge in complaining of what we don’t have in life. At the same time, we think of things that in our opinion we deserve and ignore all things that we have that we don’t deserve.

Life brings smiles and pain simultaneously to test our patience and strength of character. Good character motivates us to be thankful and blessed while bad character empowers our negative energy and make us feel sad and deprived. If we look closely, we get to know that we all have options in life. When God closes one door of opportunity, He opens another one. This may happen a bit late than what we expect, therefore we get impatient and consider ourselves as the unluckiest person on the planet.

If we look around us, we all have options in life to do and not to do. There is no compulsion to do what we are doing at the moment. If we realize that God is driving our vehicle of life, we may not feel unhappy or impatient. Instead we receive all the blessings and mercy of God with open arms and warm heart and when He takes away something from us, we would think it happened on the wish of God therefore, it should have happened this way and we won’t complain. Whatever happens in life is for good that we often realize later. This thought alone gives so much positive energy. Try it next time in your dark phase.

Blessings be upon You.

LOVE – the superficial & over rated emotion !!

Love is around You !

I was just having a conversation with my friend about love. When I asked him about what he think of Love. He surprised me saying he has tried to Google many definitions of the word Love but unfortunately couldn’t get a proper and complete definition. I smiled on his sweet reply and on his innocence. In all generations, this is the most discussed topic, in books, television, movies, even it’s a hot point of conversation during teen and young age.. People falling in love with each other and feel it differently in different situations and time.

Well, I think society and especially media have made this simple thing so complex that people spend their lives waiting for the right time for the right person to fall in love. I believe, the purest and the unconditional love is of God that one can find using all his five or six senses around him in His universe. this is the Love of Creator with His creation that is so apparent that we humans take it for granted. How many of us appreciate that we are living a life that somebody might be fighting for and counting his last few breaths on death bed. We can see the beauty in green plants and colorful flowers, in the light rays at the time of dawn and dusk. We can smell our favorite perfumes and natural fragrances, we can taste the delicious food and enjoy dining in and out with family and friends. We can walk on our feet that some people can’t have this privilege. But the overwhelming desire of having latest and luxurious vehicles deprive us to enjoy and be thankful of this blessing of God.

I would like to share the point when a human being is loved by other human being after God. It was a mother’s love, she loves a child and feels his presence and life in her womb even before seeing her child. That is Love. the true and unconditional. So it is about the purest and honest feeling that we feel for us or someone else. it could be for a plant or animal as well.. and if we start loving us and count blessings around us than we would definitely be thankful for everything. so Stop waiting for Mr. Right or Miss Right ! and appreciate and celebrate the love that is inside you and everywhere spread around you. Things come to us on the right time, worrying and desperation just ruin our present that is a Gift and is so Beautiful.

Blessings upon you.
